It is with great pride and deep humility that I address our esteemed members from the Secretary’s Desk of this historic institution. For more than seven decades, the CMAL Employees’ Co-operative Multipurpose Society Ltd. has stood as a symbol of trust, resilience, and collective progress for the employees of Eastern Coalfields Limited. What began in 1954 as a small credit society born out of struggle and solidarity has today transformed into one of the most respected and progressive cooperative institutions in West Bengal.
Our journey has been shaped by the unwavering commitment of our members, the dedication of our employees, and the visionary leadership of successive Boards. Even during challenging transitions—such as the period after March 2023 when the Society functioned under the stewardship of the Special Officer—our commitment to democratic values and transparent governance remained steadfast. The successful completion of the Delegate and Board elections in 2025 stands as testament to the Society’s adherence to cooperative principles and member participation.
Today, with a thriving membership of 3,851 and a robust financial portfolio—marked by a net profit of ₹5.20 crore, owned funds of ₹30.42 crore, deposits of ₹84.81 crore, and loan assets exceeding ₹129 crore—the Society continues to demonstrate exemplary financial discipline. Our proud Zero Borrowing Policy reflects prudent management and the inherent strength of our cooperative model.
Digital transformation has become a cornerstone of our operations. With a fully computerized core banking system, SMS alerts, digital passbooks, and enhanced online services, we are committed to offering fast, secure, and member-friendly services while maintaining the human touch that defines our institution.
Beyond financial services, our Society remains deeply committed to social responsibility. Whether it is educational awards, support for women’s self-employment, drinking water facilities, healthcare initiatives, environmental programs, or welfare support for the underprivileged—every initiative reflects our belief that a cooperative must uplift not just its members, but the community it serves.
As we look forward, the Society is preparing to venture into new horizons through diversification projects such as a petrol pump, departmental store, medicine shop, and LPG distribution centre. These initiatives will not only strengthen our financial foundation but also create employment and serve the broader community.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all Delegates, Directors, members, and staff for their constant trust and cooperation. I assure you that we will continue to work with transparency, efficiency, and a member-first approach, upholding the cooperative spirit that has defined us since 1954.
Together, let us continue this remarkable journey—
A journey of people, by the people, and for the people.
With sincere regards,
Sri Ramjee Yadav
